Local hiring is a win-win situation for employers and jobseekers. By hiring homegrown talent, your employees will have local knowledge of the local market in which they live, and employees will be more likely to be invested in your business since it benefits the community. It also simplifies the hiring process, as your local employees may be able to make other recommendations, and improves retention rates. Additionally, local hiring supports the overall Pasco County economy by creating jobs in the community that would otherwise not exist. Luckily, there are several local resources that can help you hire locally and develop strong talent pipelines.
Engagement Opportunities & Hiring Workers
Engaging with the Pasco County community – workforce, education & training partners, and other employers – will help you in hiring, training, and developing your workers. ConnectOPP was created to help facilitate business-to-business connections, connections to education & training partners, and connections to the local workforce. The portal will help employers list and apply to available opportunities such as mentorships, speaking engagements, career fairs, workplace tours, and more. After registering, you can both register for opportunities or post your own opportunities. As an employer, it’s here you can connect with various workforce platforms & programs available to help you connect with the workers you need to grow your business.

Establish Local Talent Pipelines
Local talent pipelines will streamline the hiring process to your business when you are ready to hire more employees. Your business can partner with various local organizations to source the best talent. Depending on your need, you can work to hire students from specific programs at these organizations. You can also view more resources in the Employer Resource Library.
Offer Internships & Apprenticeships
By hosting interns and/or apprentices at your organization, you can assist individuals in gaining real-world skills to prepare for work at your organization or in your industry. An internship is a work or service experience related to a student’s major or career goal that integrates the knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting under the supervision of practicing professionals. Apprenticeships provide career seekers with an accelerated path to a career, and provide employers with trained job candidates.
